Slave Bree, a 52 year old self-identified “power slave,” was shocked to learn Tuesday that not everyone sees the world exactly like she does.
According to the leather title holder and frequent conference presenter, “I was completely dumbfounded to learn that others could hold opinions different from mine and they could actually be valid.”
Bree has, accordingly, lived her entire life on the principle that “everyone else just agreed with me, because I was right and I was me.”
The incident that brought about the stark realization was an encounter with an older mentor in the leather scene.
“I found myself in a disagreement with someone who I respect, well, who I have to respect because of the things they can do for me. And that person said, ‘well not everyone sees the world that way, Bree’ and it was a shock to my system. I had to sit down for a bit. And it was at that moment that I realized there was a whole world out there that wasn’t all about me.”
The mentor in question, who asked not to be identified told The Daily Flogger, “It is hardly a surprise. We’ve all known that Bree doesn’t care about anyone or anything other than herself.”
But for Slave Bree, the result was transformative. “Finding out other people matter sometimes. That is what being leather is all about. So I guess I can say for certain I am truly leather, because now I understand that other people can sometimes be different and that is OK.”
