Emily here. I couldn’t find a good Tyler Perry movie to torture myself with, so instead I decided to subject myself to “When The Game Stands Tall” which is, first off, “inspired by a true story,” which (at least to me) always means “there was something marginally cool that happened once, and we added movie stars to it and rewrote the ending and most of what happened to follow a Hollywood formula, but other than that at least some of this may have actually happened, but probably not in the order presented.”
This is a football movie. The last football movie I watched starred Sandra Bullock, who I love and write letters to every week. She never writes back. Oh Sandy I miss you.
So that is my first issue. A football movie without Sandra Bullock. Is that even possible? Who gave this thing the green light?
So then I find out it stars the guy who played Jesus in Mel Gibson’s movie. So I think “cool” at least someone gets whipped and nailed to a cross. But no. Not this time. I waited and waited and it wasn’t until the credits rolled that I realized there was no Jesus and no whipping.
Everything about this movie was disappointing and awful. Just the kind of movie someone like me deserves. I should have to watch movies like this all the time, because I am a worthless human being. I don’t deserve better. I deserve worse. Like Tyler Perry movies.
I know it’s me and not the movie, so….

About Emily: Emily is The Daily Flogger’s emotionally masochistic film and media critic. Her views are exclusively her own and should not be considered the product of a rational mind. Her reviews usually have little to do with the movie in question but do give a nice glimpse inside the mind of a twisted and tortured soul.
