NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
“It used to be much easier,” said Sheila Banes, 22. “I remember a time when you could go online and find really hot bondage porn and surf for hours and hours. Now, I am embarrassed to say, I’ve become just another victim.”
The problem isn’t censorship or web sites shutting down. What Banes is referring to is Buzzfeed and similar websites.
“I am trying to get my kink on and masturbate and then I see a link “Ten Things You Don’t Know About the Harry Potter Films” and I click on it and before you know it, I lose 6 hours of my life.”
Among the distractions Banes faced:
- “7 Continuity Errors in John Hughes Films”
- “12 Star’s Plastic Surgery Disasters”
- “How Well Do You Really Know Your Cat”
- “11 Sequels That Should Never Have Been Made”
Martin Abronowitz from the American Council for Adult Entertainment (ACAE), an advocacy group for adult websites and films told The Daily Flogger, “We used to think the biggest threat to the industry was piracy and free porn, now we are beginning to realize that we are losing viewers to humor, trivia, and fun facts. They appear to be even more addictive than pornography.”
Banes says she is disappointed in herself and may seek help for her addiction.
“It isn’t just that I waste hours and hours of my life. By the time I am done with reading it is late and I am exhausted and I still haven’t found any porn. Most nights I wind up going to be bed horny.”
